Alicante, Spain - Promenade Explanada de España

The promenade Explanada de España, lined by palm trees, is paved with 6.5 million marble floor tiles creating a wavy form and is one of the most lovely promenades in Spain. For the people of Alicante, it is the meeting place for the traditional Spanish paseo, or stroll along the waterfront in the evenings, and a venue for outdoor musical concerts. At the end of the promenade is a monument by the artist Mark Hersch, who still lives in the city. Ref: Wikipedia

Markers for "Casco Antigua" (Old Town) make it easy to see your location.

New "kiosks" are great places to buy post cards and magazines.

A view as we approach the promenade.

The architecture in the area varies a lot and you can see many styles.

This door is on an old building that has been refurbished. All that remains from the original building is the beautiful door.  The doorman is said to cover the door at night to protect it from vandalism.
Edificio Caturla

Shops abound and you can see the latest Spanish fashions in this window display.

Continuing with my interest in the various ways that traffic lights are designed, here is the pedestrian signal to walk and don't walk.

Nice little cigarette stand. I didn't notice all of the black dots on the street before. Who knows what that is!

As we promenaded, we saw an area with artists. Some were working on the art and some were working on the people.

Shout out "Hello" to fellow travelers from the trip. If you view the blog, I hope that you enjoy the detailed photographs and that you will take a moment to add to the comments.

The walkway is made of small tiles in a wavy pattern.  Crazy!

You can see that this is not a small walkway.  All those tiles and I'm very surprised that there is not a heap at the end with blank spaces.  I would be exhausted by the time I finished this tile work.

Here are some more artists at work.

Notice that McDonald's is quietly in the background.

This cafe caught my eye because of the glass enclosure.

Wow, what a great idea. A "drink" bar and an ice cream bar all in one.

This has the appearance of a fancier restaurant. Click on the photo to get a closer look.  What is the name?  New Orleans!!

Looking back, it is a beautiful promenade filled with things to entertain and places to rest.

So, with the views of Alicante, will you now consider this beach resort for your next vacation?
