Ladee's Travels

Here are my entries for the 2014 Arizona State Fair Photography.  The judges will be hard at work this weekend and the fair opens in less than two weeks.  This post will be updated and resent with results and pics from the display. These are all works from the past year, reflecting classes and travels from August 2013 - August 2014.  If a ribbon was won, it is noted.  If the work scored high enough to be displayed, it is noted as "displayed" although no ribbon was awarded. The first four are entered in the "Experimental Division". Our last port of call was New York City.  During the night the ships clocks (and ours) were set 1 hour back to be on the same time as New York.  Our pilot boarded at about 3:30 AM and we made our way to port.  We sailed to the south side of Long Island and passed under the Verrezano-Narrows Bridge as we entered the Harbor at 4:30 AM.  The rails were lined with passengers as we made our way pass the Statue of Liberty, a warm and welcoming light in the darkness.  I thought of my grandmother coming to this harbor as a young woman.  Yes, it can bring a little tingle of tears to your eyes.  I returned to my room as the ship found her berth in the New York harbor.  Clothes and the main suitcase had been packed last night and the luggage gathered by the staff to help with staging our disembarkation.  My traveling companions had an 8 AM call to disembark; mine was at 11 AM.  I walked around the ship and took a few more photos before I wen...

From the Ship's Official Log Book Setting a south westerly course during today the Ruby Princess paralleled the coast of Canada leaving Nova Scotia 185nm on our starboard side.  Weather experienced throughout the day Noon Position:  64°16.6N 008°23.3W Sky:  Overcast Wind:  Southerly Beaufort Force 7/8 Temperature:  13°c/55.4°f Barometric Pressure:  1019.3 mb Sunrise:  06:43 Sunset:  20:00

Departure is at 4:30 PM. The Commodore is amazing. He was able to turn the ship around in the cove, and head out to sea. The sun would peak through the clouds every once in a while and the colors of the town would come alive.  One of the photos shows a what the town looks like when the sun is not making the colors brilliant. This was the first time that the Ruby Princess visited St. John's.  We are in store for a grand farewell from the locals.  The trolls from Iceland were onboard!  All of a sudden half of the chair backs folded! Other ships sounded their whistles as we left the harbor.  Crowds line the railing to get a few last photos.  The canon's sounded as we cleared the harbor in a grand farewell.  Looking closely, we could see a line of people at the top of the Signal Hill, waving farewell to the Ruby Princess.  Farewell, St. John's.  You have been delightful! ...
