Vienna - Cafe Sacher and the Sacher Torte

We have tried the "Sacher Torte" knock-offs in several cafes. It was now time to test the real thing, the ORIGINAL SACHER TORTE.  Be bold. Be brave. Come along for the ride. Enjoy!

The entrance to the cafe is directly across from the Opera house.

We got a nice table beside a window.  It was starting to lightly rain.
Menus

Contact information. I was mainly interested
in the Internet and Shop: www.sacher.com

Hmm. A syrah sounds nice.

And I would like the original sausage.

And a bowl of soup.  Pass on the liver dumplings.
How about potato soup?

Wine looks nice. Silver table setting.  The piece above the silverware
is mustard in a fancy holder.

This gives a better view of the mustard server.

Potato soup, nice garnish, nice bowl with the hotel name on it.
And their own "S" emblem.

Well, this was a bit of a surprise. It was the sausage and a roll.
The sausage was in a hot water pot, set aside while we
ate, so we had two of these.  Horseradish and mustard.
On a plate with "Hotel Sacher Wein".

Oh, I did get a close up of the mustard.  I wonder if the
inner glass container is supposed to be too big.
It looked like the lid was adjusted to fit the tall
mustard glass.

and the horseradish game in its own little dish

We ordered desert and I became distracted by things to see.
This is the ceiling.

Ahhh, finally.
Here was the ORIGINAL, one and only, best one that there is
Sacher Torte with a chocolate on top.
Rule here is: Everyone can make Sacher Torte, but only
the Sacher establishment can garnish with the chocolate.

With whipped cream

And a napkin stuck to the side.
(Can someone explain this?)

Viennese Melange coffee

One more look before I dig in and eat it all.
I actually ate it very, very slowly, savoring each
mouthful. I knew that it was going to be a long
time before I had this ORIGINAL one again.
Hmmm, wonder if the Internet ones are good?

It was good!!

What a beautiful place and the table setting was very interesting.

I hear talk about who's Sacher Torte is the best. I'm not sure I could judge, but would enjoy trying them all!
