Berlin - Savigny Platz area

It was cold and rainy as we walked from the Zoologischer Garten Train station.  We carried backpacks and dragged suitcases down Hardenbergstrasse until we came to Steinplatz.  We turned left and followed Uhlandstrasse, crossed Kartstrasse, and came to 184 Uhlandstrasse and the Eden at the Zoo hotel.  The pension is on the second floor (which means up two flights of stairs). Very nice, open at noon, quickly shown to the room for the night, a neat and clean pension for 60 euros. I think that it is quite a deal.

Lunch time in Berlin! Following "Rick Steves" advice, Savigny Platz was the next destination. Trendy, west end plaza with a lot of restaurents.

The waiter/bar tender was a Peter Sellars look alike,
and he really played it up.

Ordered the house microbrew
gross size (large)

Bread and lard
(Bacon lard)

Plates were heated.
Some spicy mustard.

Rick Steves recommended a good sampler plate:
Berliner Allerlei
stuffed cabbage, fried sausage, pease pudding,
boilded pork knuckle, pork burger, Kasseler chop,
sausage with hot tomato curry sauce,
sauerkraut and saute potatoes
13.90 euros per person

sausages were very good

Curry was a surprising taste

I ordered another beer...a small beer.
And he brought it in a shot glass.
Funny!
Good start on the German portion of the trip.  More later!

Thanks for the sites of Germany. The food looks good, but totally different from what you were showing in Paris. Always fun to experiment!

You are right, it is very different. Very hardy and tasty. This was in a typical German beer haus very much like the representation that we would see in the US. It is also a microbrewery, as a lot of the beer restaurants are, so the beer is fresh, tasty, and relatively inexpensive. It is a good option while in Germany.
