Florence, Italy - Street Scenes and Orsenmichele

We continued our walk and came upon a scarf booth. Wait! Stop here! Let's look

Orsenmichele. "Kitchen Garden of St Michael". This building is on the site of the kitchen garden of the San Michele monestary, now gone.  The guilds were told to commission statues of their patron saints to fill the niches.  Copies are here now and the originals have been moved to museums.

It was originally built as a grain market and was turned in to a church in the late 1300s.

A quick view of the cobblestone streets in this area.  A lot of work to make them fit so neatly.

I liked the flags flapping in the breeze.  The white building in the background is another church with white, red and green marble but I don't know which on it is.We didn't go there.

All in all, it was a delightful sampling of Florence. I would like to return and take my time in the museums.  I like the fall and winter, when those pesty tourists are gone!
