Basel, Switzerland - Blue Hour Departure

Do you remember those long light strings that we saw when crossing the first bridge? The shorter streaks of light are from the bridge.

The day was grey and cold. We were a little early for the boat and got cold waiting. Luckily, we were able to board soon after arrival. A hot cup of coffee and some snacks helped me to forget that lunch was skipped.

The lights burned amber and were a delightful contrast to the post sunset blue sky. A Viking boat passed as we were pulling out, preparing to dock.

Basel, Switzerland - Farewell Breakfast

Our AirBnB host prepared fresh bread, local jams and jellies, meats, and cheeses for breakfast along with freshly brewed coffee.  Served at the kitchen table, I felt right at home.

Luckily there was only damp chilly air along the walk from the home to the river port.

Waiting inside the very cold terminal for our boat to arrive.  I am anxious to check in and be on board.  Love the river!!

Basel, Switzerland - Freie Strasse and Barfüsserplatz Christmas Market

The walk continued on Münsterberg to Freie Strasse in front of the New Yorker store.  I saw bubbles floating and delighted children reaching to touch them.  Continuing on Freie Strasse and turning left on Streitgasse to the market at Barfüsserplatz.  From there a quick taxi ride finished the day's tour.  (Couldn't figure out the location of the bus stop.)  That is the end of the wonderfully exhausting day.  One note: the taxi driver had to turn off the car while waiting for a fare and waiting for the payment at the end.  Reduced pollution measures?

Basel, Switzerland - Cathedral Lit at Night

The exterior of the Basel Cathedral is made of red sandstone and colored roof tiles and two slim towers.  The north tower is named Georgsturm and the south tower is Martinsturm.  They are named after saints of the knights George and Martin.  The towers both consist of three lower storeys (a part of a building that can be used for living, working, storage, etc.) and several Friezeschosse (open storeys).

 The lights are coming on as the sun goes down.  Notice the lights at the top of the left tower. There were musicians there.

 There is a full moon, that is the little white dot.

Basel, Switzerland - Münsterplatz Christmas Market

This is the Christmas Market that is next to the Basel Cathedral.

 Special chocolate treats in this booth.

 This market had a nice children's section.

 Socks and he also sold those wonderful wool shoe inserts that keep my feet so warm.
