We boarded the bus early in the morning and joined a 30 bus
convoy from Alexandria to Cairo. The
freeway that runs between these two cities is loosely a 3-4 lane road, although
at times it quickly changes to 2-5 lanes, depending on what is traveling. Buses,
large trucks, small trucks and donkey carts all share the road with people
trying to cross the highway on foot.
Exit roads are dirt, there are stops along the way to get food and
drink. The drive takes about 3 hours. I
had a side window and was able to take some photos of the adventure. Mom sat in
the front seat and was able to see all that the driver had to deal with. JuJu (name is spelled phonetically) was the
hero of the day, but ask any passenger on any bus and we will all claim that we
had the best driver!
The tour guide was Dina Touta, a well spoken Egyptologist.
She was excellent and provided information not only on the country historically
but an insight in to the political and social situation in the country.
The pictures show the scenes along the highway. Dina said that the land on either side of the
highway has been made in to farmland. Good use of resources with transportation
and water along the same line. There is new road construction periodically and
the new sections are nice, smooth surfaces.

Interesting first look at Egypt. Thanks for sharing, now I want to quickly move on the other pictures I saw in a later post!
