Vienna - Kärntner Straße (German for Carinthia Street)

Kaerntner Strasse is the street spelling if the special characters aren't available.

We discovered this pedestrian street as we headed from the Vienna Opera at Karlsplatz to the church at Stephansplatz.  It was very active with visual delights.

Pedestrians Only!

Vienna gloves!!

Tea Set for my sister

Loved the etched glasses.  I'll take a set of these.

Ohhh, very colorful.

Funky tea set.  G: which one do you want. I'll just
get both and we will trade off every few months.

Mom!! For you.

A lot of the stores had the fancy fronts.

Kapuziner Kirche (Capuchin Church - Catholic)
Wikipedia info on this Church
We didn't go inside.  There is an Imperial Crypt
in the bottom level.
Click here for wikipedia info on the Imperial Crypt

Sigh.  It's everywhere.

Click here for the shopping link!!!  Yes, this webpage is in German, but true shoppers can work through the language barrier. Take a look.

Four Rivers Fountain in Neuer Markt Square shows
Lady Providence surrounded by figures symbolizing
rivers that flow into the Danube.  The statues,
originally nude, were replaced with more modest
versions by Maria Teresa. [Steves]

Some of the buildings in the Neuer Markt Square are
being renovated (right side).
"The buildings all around ... were rebuilt after World
War II. Half of the city's inner center was intentionally
destroyed by Churchhill to demoralize the Viennese,
who were disconcertingly enthusiastic about the
Nazis." [Steves]

I like the black and white rose pins.
Put this store "Gerstner" on your shopping list.
Look at what I saw in the windows!
Click here for the Gerstner website This is the English version of their website. You can see their high quality and other types of foods.  Fun to browse through the history pages too.

Chocolates!

More chocolates and pastries.

Cakes.  Now try to pick ONE!

We need to tear ourselves away from the chocolate window and move along the street!
Perfumes, purses and scarves

You can't tell, but this was a HUGE bottle.
Oops, drawn to another chocolate window!
