After a night's rest at the Hilton Munich City, it was easy to take the interior elevator down to the subway "UBahn" It is on the Airport Line, which would have saved the 70 euro cab fare from the night before. It is also just two stops from the city center. Great location. It is under renovation and will be finished in 2019. I am not sure what will be offered through 2018. Rosenheimer Str. 15, 81667, München, Germany.
Four stops on the UBahn to the train station in Munich. You are able to buy the UBahn tickets from the concierge, which makes figuring out what you want to buy one less thing to do. Remember to punch the ticket as you enter the underground area. There are punch boxes located in the middle of the walkway and hard to miss if you know that you are to look for them.
This is the interior of the train station. Plenty of places to get food. The restrooms are down the escalator. The ticket shop is on the left side of the photo. Walk in, tell them where you want to go and the classe level (First or Second class) and if you want to go one way or two. Since I wasn't sure of the time for the return, single direction tickets were purchased. The tickets for second class were 15 euro.
This is a very cool train...not mine... but very cool paint job.Looking back from the train platform.
And here comes my red train, right on time.
The trains from Munich to Passau run about once an hour. I had just missed the last train, so when this train pulled up I was able to enter and get a seat. It stopped at several towns along the way and was standing room only by the time we arrived in Passau.
These are scenes along the way. So, you can look out the window and see what you can see right along with me. City for a while, then the scenery turns in to farms and small towns.
It was amazingly green even for December.
A power plant.
The walk from the Passau train station to the place where the ship docked was about 15 minutes. The walkways were large pavers in most areas and cobblestones in some. The mist was hanging low in the sky and made for a nice shot.
Time to check in and decide what to do.
