Delos (Greece) - Archealogical Museum

5/18/2012
The original Naxian Lions have a happy home, safe inside of the museum.  See the post on the outside location...click here.

The Museum is filled with antiquities found on Delos.
The main hallway was filled with unique statues.

The tile work has been brought inside to save the remaining artwork.

This is a piece of a wall painting.
I think that this is the top of a room or building.

I had to stop and take a quick picture of the huge carved door.
This is a detail of one of the door panels.
A very nice museum and certainly worth a visit.  The museum is located on the map below.

According to Greek mythology, Apollo was born on this tiny island in the Cyclades archipelago. Apollo's sanctuary attracted pilgrims from all over Greece and Delos was a prosperous trading port. The island bears traces of the succeeding civilizations in the Aegean world, from the 3rd millennium B.C. to the palaeochristian era. The archaeological site is exceptionally extensive and rich and conveys the image of a great cosmopolitan Mediterranean port.  See more information on the UNESCO website.
