Phoenix, Arizona - Arizona’s Largest Laundry

I often write about"laundry while traveling" as if I don't have laundry adventures at home. Little did I know that "Arizona's Largest Laundry" was in my neighborhood. 

Periodically I take my large comforters to this local coin-less laundry. This entails finding my coinless card and hauling everything that needs cleaned but requires a washer and dryer larger than my home model. By the way, this is also a great way to finish washing and drying clothes when the family takes a trip. Done in about an hour. Bring the fam along as part of the folding adventure. 

My original cash card didn't work so I found an attendent. She informed me that they had a new system and set off to help me. She put my $7.15 on a new card as $8 (nice and friendly policy), demonstrated how the new system works, and handed the new card to me. 

The washing machine sizes range from single load to ten loads. I selected a four load model  for my two comforters. Done in 25 minutes. I moved to a large dryer and they are done in 27 minutes.

Miami, Arizona - Establishment Signs

In 2015 I traveled the Danube with Rob and Tracey from New Zealand and they started my habit of photographing (and comparing) business signs that are attached to the front of the building.  Here are some that I saw in Miami.  The first two photographs are of the decorations along the street.  Someone sure does take some time to do this.

Miami, Arizona - Colors of Sullivan Street

The buildings are very colorful and I find the cats painted on walls and planters to be a delight.  Here are more views of the shops as we walked down the street.

Miami, Arizona - Sullivan Street

We parked the car and started our downtown tour on Sullivan Street.  This is the part that I am most familiar with.  My Soda Fountain shop is here and I like to get an ice cream cone and support the local economy.  There are several bars but antique stores seem to be the biggest draw.  Some of the buildings are starting to relive their glory days and some are waiting for someone to claim them and rebuild.

Miami, Arizona - Mining Operations

Miami is a classic Western copper boom-town.  It is 9 square miles and, as of the 2010 census, has a population of 1,837.  Copper mining accounts for the largest number of jobs.  Freeport-McMoRan employs about 600 people at the Miami operation.   These photographs are taken from Rt. 60, which runs on the outskirts of the town.  The "downtown" area is in the process of renovation and we are on our way to inspect the progress since the last visit.

Globe, Arizona - Cobre Valley Center for the Arts

It was only February but the tree in front of the Cobre Valley Center for the Arts was full of beautiful white blossoms.

 The Cobre Valley Center for the Arts is located in the old Courthouse, located at 101 North Broad Street in Globe.  The website is http://globearts.org and they also have a Facebook page.  You can keep up with the latest exhibits and classes in Fine Arts, Music, Drama, Crafts and more.

 And then turned to the right and took a photo.  I was then drawn to a room on the right which had exhibits of two local artists.  I spent the remaining time chatting and did not get to walk through the center. I will need to return!  I understand that there is a huge quilting event coming soon.
