The beautiful castle, officially named the Princely House of Thurn and Taxis, holds a Romantic Christmas Market. This is the home of a German noble family that played a key role in the European postal service in the 16th century and are well known owners of breweries and builders of castles. The most recent prince, Albert II, 12th Prince was born in 1983 and holds the title from 1990 to present as the current head of the house. The family brewery was sold to Paulaner Group in 1996 but still sells under the brand of Thurn and Taxis. (Source: wikipedia).
There is an entrance fee of 8 euros for entrance to the castle and the grounds.
The guide gathered our group and explained the process to enter the crowded market, where we were going to meet to return on the bus. We had walked to the castle, but thankfully did not have to walk back to the boat.
The guide passed out our entrance tickets.
