Marseille, France – Notre-Dame de la Garde

We continued our tour in Marseille. The bus climbed the narrow road up the hill to Notre-Dame de la Garde.. It is a 19th-century Basilica that sits on a hill with a superb view of the Vieux Port (Old Port).
Mom and I stayed on the first level and photographed the basilica and the views of the city.
Notice that you can see the sky through the eyes of the statues. You used to be able to climb a spiral staircase to the top and look out from the top!

There was a lot of construction in Marseille. They are preparing for an international event in 2013.  Traffic was a disaster and stopped the bus a lot. This made it easier to take photos.

Our tour guide Jose (not a Spaniard)!
