Clotilde's Edible Adventures in Paris reminded me of the days spent strolling the streets of Paris, making frequent stops at Pâtisseries and cafes. Thinking back to the "edible adventures", I fondly remember quite a few.
Soupe à l'oignon française, the original French Onion Soup from "Au Pied de Cochon" near Les Halles. We were so exhausted from our travels that we could have slept at the table after this warm and satisfying meal. The onions were browned and had an intense flavor. The melted cheese sealed the top, was stretchy when you took a spoonful and clung to the bread beneath it.
Strawberries were every where, and tasted best in the desserts from Julien Pâtisserie. The cafe stop was much needed after a long walk through the Tuileries Garden. The strawberries had an intense flavor, and I understand that the French strawberries have a much stronger fraise taste than the ones imported from areas outside of France. The local stores sold strawberries from France and "outside of France". It was interesting to see that the more flavorful French (and local) strawberries cost a little more.
Thick and creamy chocolat chaud from Richelieu Angelina's at the Louvre. Ah, Angelina's! I was so delighted to discover them at the Louvre. Paintings, sculpture...and hot chocolate. Pure liquid candy.
After a wonderful stroll through the gardens at Versaille, it was très nécessaire to stop at the restaurant La Flotille for a meal and, bien sûr, dessert.
Ahh, and creme brule. Many times at many cafes, as if we needed to sample them all to find the best. all different. All delicious...délicieux.
Ohh, and one mustn't forget the delightful framboises avec crème chantilly from the Hameau restaurant at Chateau Chantilly. I have never tasted whipped creme this good.
Mmmmm, the edible adventures in Paris...and beyond.
